With the release of Q4 earnings, Netflix announced that there are now 44 million Netflix subscribers in the world. This is an increase of about 4 million members in Q4 of 2013.
It is especially the international (non US) markets where the number of Netflix subscribers is growing fast, and Netflix expects to reach 48 million members in total during Q1 2014. You might think that Netflix would be satisfied with this large amount of members, though they are already planning their expansion into new European markets. According to rumours, we could see Netflix launch in Belgium, France or Germany in late 2014.
Netflix also announced what original series they are releasing new seasons of in 2014. There is naturally the release of House of Cards Season 2 (February 14), but also Derek, Hemlock Grove, Orange is the New Black and Lilyhammer will have new seasons. A final season of The Killing is to air exclusively on Netflix, and their original animation series Turbo F.A.S.T will have new episodes. Last Netflix will also premier the new adult cartoon BoJack Horseman, the new series about Marco Polo and will have new series from DreamWorks Animation.
Besides 2014, Netflix also have plans for 2015. It has already been announced that a new science fiction series named Sense8 will premiere, while the – yet to be named – series from the Damages and Daredevil creator also will air on Netflix.
